The Scottish Event Campus (SEC) has announced the appointment of Ruth Bailey as an Independent Non-Executive Director as part of its ongoing long-term growth investment.
Additionally, Peter Haggarty has been confirmed as Director of Development and Infrastructure.
Haggarty, currently the Executive Director of Estates at the University of Glasgow, stated: “The SEC is one of Europe’s most renowned event destinations, featuring the OVO Hydro and Armadillo, two buildings that have transformed Glasgow’s skyline.
“I am excited to join at this dynamic time and look forward to collaborating with Dom and the team on future developments.”
These appointments support the SEC’s growth strategy to unlock economic and social value
Ruth Bailey brings over 20 years of leadership in civil engineering, having delivered major projects across Australia, Asia, and the UK, with expertise in complex design, construction, and project management.
In June 2026, Bailey joined WSP as Deputy Chief Operating Officer for the UK & Ireland. She is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, a chartered structural engineer, and a Leadership Fellow with the International Women’s Forum.
Bailey said: “The SEC is vital to Glasgow’s international events scene, and I am eager to contribute to its growth.
“I look forward to working with the Board and leadership team to support development, promote sustainable investment, and help the SEC deliver world-class experiences for clients, visitors, and the city.”
Haggarty’s responsibilities will include overseeing infrastructure, development, facilities, and compliance teams, playing a key role in advancing the campus’s growth plans.
He will assume his new role in July 2026
SEC Chief Executive Dominic McKay said: “Ruth and Peter bring extensive experience managing large-scale projects.
“Ruth’s expertise in infrastructure, strategy, and sustainability will strengthen our future planning, benefiting Glasgow and Scotland.
“Peter led one of Scotland’s largest educational infrastructure projects, delivering four state-of-the-art academic buildings that transformed the University of Glasgow campus and positively impacted surrounding neighbourhoods.”
Overall, the SEC’s strategic appointments position it for sustainable growth and enhanced contributions to Glasgow’s infrastructure and events landscape.
