GLASGOW & EDINBURGH BEST UK CITIES TO LAUNCH YOUR STARTUP
Glasgow and Edinburgh have been featured in the top 10 UK cities to launch your startup.
This comes from data gathered by The Hub Events through determining the quantitative and qualitative factors as well as business environment for each city combining it into a total score.
The highest number of incorporations on record was seen from 2020 to 2021 with 810,316 company incorporations. This is an increase of 21.8% over the previous year.
This could very well be the “year of the entrepreneur” as 70 per cent of young people plan to launch their own company in the next twelve months.
The survey shows that Glasgow has lost out to Edinburgh in the best cities for startups. The Startup Ecosystem of Glasgow is ranked at number 187 globally, and shows a negative momentum decreasing -36 spots since 2020. Glasgow also ranks at number 8 in United Kingdom, and 51 in Western Europe.
Glasgow forms the western part of the Silicon Glen high tech sector of Scotland. With plenty of large consumer electronics companies in the region, they could give the region the boost it needs to top the charts once more.
Glasgow is an ideal place to locate for Health, Marketing & Sales and Social & Leisure startups. As the most popular industries in Glasgow, there is a sample of 19 startups in Health, 11 in Marketing & Sales and 11 in Social & Leisure.
There is also a sample of 72 startups in Glasgow, no accelerators, no co working spaces, no organizations and no leaders.
Edinburgh is ranked at number 102 globally, and shows a positive momentum increasing 31 spots since 2020. Edinburgh also ranks at number 6 in United Kingdom, and 26 in Western Europe.

Edinburgh is an ideal place to locate for Ecommerce & Retail, Education and Social & Leisure startups. As the most popular industries in Edinburgh, there is a sample of 55 startups in Ecommerce & Retail, 27 in Education and 15 in Social & Leisure. There is also a sample of 161 startups, no accelerators in, 2 co working spaces in, no organizations and 1 leader in Edinburgh.
