English dental group Smile Rooms has acquired 1 Smile Dental Clinic in Glasgow, marking its first entry into the Scottish market.
Located on Renfield Street in Glasgow city centre, the four-surgery practice serves approximately 5,000 patients and is known for its cosmetic, restorative and implant dentistry services. The acquisition followed a confidential sales process managed by specialist business adviser Christie & Co.
Hanel Nathwani, director at Smile Rooms, said the group was pleased to welcome the clinic, highlighting its strong reputation, experienced clinical team and patient-focused approach.
The acquisition brings Smile Rooms’ portfolio to nine clinics across England and Scotland, supporting its strategy for sustainable expansion while maintaining high standards of patient care.
Previously owned by brothers Dr Ryan Shum and Dr Dean Shum, the practice has undergone modernisation and expanded its cosmetic and implant dentistry services since 2021. The brothers decided to sell the business to focus on family commitments but will remain involved in the clinic in clinical roles.
Nathwani said the immediate priority would be to support the existing team, consider further investment and build on the foundations established by the previous owners. Their continued clinical involvement is expected to help maintain continuity for patients and staff.
Kevin Strain, senior business agent – dental at Christie & Co, advised the brothers on the sale. He noted that the practice had successfully transitioned from NHS to private dentistry and attracted significant buyer interest, with multiple offers submitted by the closing date.
Strain also welcomed Smile Rooms’ first acquisition in Scotland, highlighting the continued demand for quality dental practices across the country.
Under its new ownership, 1 Smile Dental Clinic is expected to benefit from further investment and development while retaining its existing team and commitment to quality care.
