Glasgow-based sign and display specialist EVM is targeting more than a doubling of its £3m turnover by March 2027 as part of a £1.5m expansion programme.

The family-run company has purchased the neighbouring premises at Thornliebank Industrial Estate, increasing its overall footprint by 40%. The additional space will bring EVM’s total premises to 2,787sqm, supporting expanded production, logistics, stock capacity and workforce growth.

Managing director Paul Fennon said the business had outgrown its existing facilities and viewed the availability of the neighbouring property as an opportunity to support its continued expansion.

The investment will help EVM recruit skilled employees, create new career opportunities and maintain its service standards as demand grows.

The £1.5m expansion programme will focus on capitalising on the recovery in the conference and exhibition sector, which is returning to pre-pandemic activity levels. The company also sees further opportunities in commercial projects and specialist retail fit-outs.

EVM operates a range of printing and manufacturing equipment from suppliers including EFI, Canon, Mimaki, Kongsberg, JWEI and Trotec. Its bespoke joinery division primarily uses Homag and Martin machinery.

Alongside expanding its premises, the company plans to invest further in high-speed, wide-format digital printing technology and increase its vehicle fleet with electric delivery vehicles.

The development is expected to support an increase in headcount from 36 to 47, with recruitment planned across experienced joiners and carpenters, digital printing and finishing operators, and installation technicians.

Fennon highlighted the importance of employees to the company’s long-term success, noting that many team members have worked at EVM for more than a decade. The business has also welcomed relatives of existing employees as apprentices and new starters, reflecting its family-run ethos and commitment to developing talent.

EVM manufactures and installs signage, branded graphics and interior fit-out components. Its previous projects include graphics and large-scale head-office fit-outs for COP26, Glasgow-based distiller Edrington, Cala Homes and the UCI World Cycling Championships.

The expansion has been supported by Bank of Scotland through a £300,000 mortgage, allowing EVM to secure the neighbouring property quickly.

David Drylie, relationship manager at Bank of Scotland, said EVM had developed an impressive family business over more than 30 years, continually investing in its people and capabilities.

He added that the latest investment would provide the space needed to build on the company’s progress, create skilled employment opportunities and support further growth from its Glasgow base.
