SCOTTISH CONNECTIVITY SPECIALIST PARTNERS WITH VODAFONE
Scottish smart building connectivity specialist, Exchange Communications has partnered with Vodafone to deliver futureproofing high-capacity upgrades at five UK airports including Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.
Installed by Exchange Communications, the technology is now live across George Best Airport in Belfast and Newcastle International Airport. Meanwhile, dedicated 5G systems are also being installed in Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.
The upgrade means holidaymakers, business travellers and businesses at these airports are starting to enjoy faster and more reliable mobile data, thanks to the arrival of Vodafone 5G.
As well as much faster download speeds ensuring better internet connection within the terminals, 5G can benefit businesses across the airport in a range of areas, such as real-time inventories and smart carts where customers no longer need to scan their purchases at checkout. The technology also has the potential to support a range of the latest airport services including contactless check-in and digital passport controls.
Tom Sime (pictured above), CEO at Exchange Communications, said: “The airports are a pivotal part of the economy supporting an ecosystem of companies employing thousands of people. The deployments of 5G will both futureproof the airports connectivity and enables new services which will support the airport, its customers, and businesses.
The airports will be the UK’s most connected companies.”
Andrea Dona, UK Network and Development Director at Vodafone, said: “Millions of passengers use these airports every year, so we’re delighted to be able to give them fast data speeds, however busy it gets. Meanwhile, each of these airports has an important role to play in their region and their local economy. So it’s great to be able to supply the connectivity they need to continue to grow and succeed.”
Danny Quinn, Technical Asset Director at Edinburgh Airport, added: “Improving the passenger experience is an important part of our approach and the installation of 5G will deliver faster internet connections to our customers, as well as staff and third parties.
We rely on technology like never before so we want to ensure we have ease of access to make journeys through the airport as easy as possible.”
