HOW TO GET THE PERFECT COLOUR FOR YOUR HAIR

Scotland’s favourite colour techniques have been revealed by Brian Leo McCallum, owner of Roar Hair and Beauty.

He says: “When it comes to colour and knowing what you want, it can be overwhelming. 

“With social media, Instagram particularly, it can difficult to know what to ask for and what colour you want to go for. 

“It’s likely that you know of the two most popular colour techniques – balayage and highlights, but do you know what else to ask for to get the colour you really want?

“If you’re looking for a new you for Christmas here are my recommendations.”

According to Brian first up is Air Touch Balayage. 

This is where your hairdresser uses the air from the hair drier to remove the hair they don’t want to be coloured, and leave the pieces that they do want to colour. 

This is exactly what you want to ask for if you are looking for a seamless blend and low maintenance colour. 

Your natural colour will grow in beautifully and blend with this even a while after your appointment. This is perfect for fine hair too as it can be used to add dimension and depth.

Next up is a technique that hairdressers call Scrunching. This is ideal for guests who wear their hair naturally and embrace their hairs own texture.

It’s an amazing and fast way to create a subtle ombré effect that creates the illusion of movement throughout your hair. 

This is the act of actually scrunching the colour into your hair for a freehand finish that looks so natural your friends will question if it’s your own colour. 

Not only does this technique give a gorgeous finish, it’s really fun too!

If you are looking for bold, playful colour but don’t have hours to dedicate sitting in the salon chair, don’t be freaked out when your hairdresser suggests sponging colour onto your hair.

This lets hairdressers ‘blob’ vivid colours on over your hair that is already pre lightened. 

This is perfect if you are looking for colour that is unique with different panels of colour which are textured and fun. 

The trick with this one is that the tone of your hair has to be perfect before any colour is added, so be prepared to have your hair lightened and toned beforehand.
