DENTAL PRACTICE CELEBRATES CARBON EMISSION MILESTONE
Posted On April , 2023
One80 Dental celebrated offsetting more than 30 tonnes of carbon emissions, the equivalent of 74,430 miles driven in a car this past Earth Day.
The specialist-led dental practice in Totley, Sheffield, strengthened its commitment to sustainability earlier this year by registering with social enterprise Ecologi, pledging to plant more than 100 trees per month.
So far, one80 Dental’s work with Ecologi has led to 428 trees being planted and eight environmental projects being funded – from turning methane gas into electricity in Brazil to reducing deforestation in Columbia.
These measures have resulted in a large reduction of CO2 emissions, equal to 23 long-haul flights or saving 90 square metres of sea ice, and one80 Dental is encouraging members of the public to get involved in its cause this Earth Day with a one-off pledge.
By clicking the ‘Gift More Impact’ button on the practice’s Ecologi profile; people can make a donation which will enable 30 extra trees to be planted.
Nigel Rosenbaum (pictured above), principal and owner at one80 Dental, said: “This is a critical time for the planet, with the effects of climate change becoming ever more apparent. Sustainability is one of the highest priorities at one80 Dental and we are committed to doing what we can to reduce our environmental impact – as individuals, within the practice, and on a wider scale in the dental profession as well as through our work with Ecologi.
Launching our green charter this year has already had a fantastic impact and we are proud of the difference we have made in just four months. This has taken our commitment to the planet to the next level and we are excited to see how many more trees can be planted, projects can be funded and emissions can be offset as we go forwards.”
Alongside working with Ecologi, the team at one80 Dental are committed to doing whatever they can to reduce their environmental impact, in an industry well-known for its use of waste resources (energy, water, consumables) and single-use plastics.
Solar panels and an electric vehicle charging point have been installed at the practice – measures which have saved almost three tonnes of CO2 in the last two years and the team has a ‘recycle and reuse’ policy wherever possible.
