One luxury we really learned to appreciate during the pandemicb was the Takeaway industry. With many being unable to go out for dinner restaurants across the country temporarily moved to being takeaway only ensuring people were well feed during lockdown.
Some the entries were provided by the 2021 Food Awards Scotland.
LYCHEES (AYR)
Opening its doors in 2011 Lychees aims to introduce a contemporary twist to the traditional Chinese cuisine by including western style dinning into the mix.
Owner Peter Fong has years of experience and success in local Ayr restaurants since the early 90’s. He and his time showcase use their combined years of experience in their dedication and passion for the quality of their food and service ensuring customers feel like they come first.
They have several different menus including a separate takeaway & delivery menu with some set meal options and a special fusions menu.
Their bar stocks premium products that match the food they serve with an extensive range of beers such as a Chinese favourite Tsingtao. It includes a number of fine handpicked wines supplied by the highly experienced Alexander Wines.
LUIGI’S PIZZERIA (DUNDEE)
Luigi Esposito emigrated from the Amalfi Coast in 1938 after his own grandfather had introduced gelato to Dundee in 1920. The business is now being run by Luigi’s granddaughter ensuring the family business continues.
The Calabria pizza was listed as a guest pizza special and but proved so popular that Luigi’s have put it on the permanent menu. One thing they’re passionate about is their dough which they spend 3 days perfecting. They slowly ferment it to intensify the flavour and ensure that it is light without any additives.
They ensure they buy ingredients local wherever possible such as getting meat from the local butchers so that they support local businesses.
Their dedication has paid off as over the years they’ve won Best Pizza Takeaway in Central Scotland 2019 and Scottish Pizzeria of the Year in 2021 and 2022.
THE SEAFOOD SHACK (ULLAPOOL)
The Shack opened in May 2016 with one intention, to provide Ullapool with local seafood that is fresh and cooked simply yet delicious.
Ullapool has many inshore fishing boats that come in to land throughout the year. The owners Kirsty and Fenella felt produce from these boats weren’t getting used to their full potential as a high percentage of it was leaving Ullapool, and which left a huge gap in the market.
With years of seafood catering experience under the belt, they decided a seafood catering trailer would be better than a restaurant as they get to cook all summer looking over towards the mountains on the other side of the loch while interacting with amazing customers each day. They have a small menu so they can ensure fresh produce and most importantly avoid the pressures of a huge business
SAFFRON (INVERNESS)
Saffron Indian is a small restaurant and takeaway that has mum and dad in the kitchen cooking the most traditional, perfectly spiced curries through to modern Indian cuisines. They don’t sell alcohol but do allow customers to bring their own bottle of beer or wine.
Saffron aims to focus on raising the experience of Indian cuisines whilst remaining accessible, affordable and most importantly enjoyable. Most of the produce used is locally sourced and to ensure the use of only the freshest ingredients to make their unique dishes. The Herald rated them as one of Scotland’s 15 Best Indian Restaurants.
MAC’S PIZZERIA (ABERDEEN)
This bespoke Napoli pizza oven has a unique porous stone interior to complement the high heat Neapolitan cooking style with an intense heat up to 500C to create light yet flavourful pizzas.
Caputo ‘00’ Neapolitan flour which they call the gold standard of pizza flour, the dough is proofed for over 24 hours. This is cooked at an intense heat for 60 to 90 seconds to create the perfect pizza which is deliciously soft and tender with airy bubble crusts & charred leopard spots
Their menu features delicious handmade pizza, fresh antipasti, daily specials and sweets with the perfect selection of wines, beers and soft drinks to complement. They were named as finalists for the Takeaway of the Year: North at the Food Awards Scotland.
SALT & VINEGAR (GLASGOW)
Salt & Vinegar takes inspirations from all things Seafood, and has created a high quality take-out and eat-in Fish & Chip restaurant southside of Glasgow. Their signature dishes include Haddock & Chips, Lobster Ravioli, King Prawns + lots more hearty foods.

DOUGH PIZZERIA & DELIVERY (EDINBURGH)
They believe in using only the best products and so we import our Italian products straight from Italy every week. This ensures customers get only the freshest and best ingredients on your pizza. They also use local farms such as the buffalo farm in fife who produce exceptional quality meats.
Their signature Seawater Dough (first Pizzeria to introduce such a novelty in Scotland) is made replacing the aggressiveness of worked and abused market-salt with a more natural and organic filtered sea-water combined with the finest Italian “00” flour and allowed to rise 72 hours making it light and easy to digest.
For over 5 years they’ve been cooking up Edinburgh’s tastiest stone-baked pizzas but we thought it was time to slice things up a little. Over the past 6 months we’ve taste tested new ingredients, made changes to the menu and gave both their South Clerk St & Rose St shops a complete makeover.

KIMCHI CULT (GLASGOW)
Kimchi Cult began life as a food stall in London’s burgeoning street food scene in 2011, before moving to Scotland and opening a bricks and mortar location in the West End of Glasgow in 2015.
For the past 10 years they’ve championed Korean Food in the UK, and have enjoyed being part of a movement which has seen Korean Food grow from a curious Eastern speciality to a major force in restaurants and menus around the world.
Their kimchi is handcrafted to a special Jeonju regional recipe, passed down through generations of Korean matriarchs or ajjumas, through our Korean food mentor, Myung Ja Ahn of Shinbengi Restaurant. Just like traditional Korean cooking, you’ll find fermented vegetables, pickles and flavours balanced by five colours and five tastes.
Their Korean-Style Fast Food menu is a mix of Western and Korean flavours and influences which includes Kimchi Burgers, Real French Fries, Korean Fried Chicken and Bibimbap, and they have an extensive range of Vegan options.
MARMARIS (ABERDEEN)
