We worked with the Scottish Café Awards to find these cafes and the nominations for this year’s awards will be opening soon.
Mrs Howat’s Vintage Pantry
Based in Dumfries Mrs Howat’s menu offers a range of hot food options as well as handcrafted desserts with the freshest and finest ingredients, to ensure the highest standard possible is provided to all their customers.
They managed to obtain some loyal customers as evident by the 4.8 rating on their website.
L’Etoile Salon de Tea
This Edinburgh based café is located two minutes from Edinburgh castle making it ideal for locals and tourists alike. They have a unique menu that features both Scottish and French cuisine with vegetarian friendly, vegan and gluten free options.
The French influence extends further with them regularly playing French music providing a laid back atmosphere that customers love.
Cult of Coffee
As the name suggests this comfortable spot located on the corner of Esslemont Avenue and Leadside Road puts a lot of effort into their coffee. They work closely with suppliers like Artisan Roast for the perfect roasted coffee with a range of cakes and scones to go with them.

Taste Buds
This Paisley based establishment is great for those looking for that homely and friendly coffee shop feel. They also offer catering services from their reasonably priced menu that will accommodate all budgets,
What helps them create such a welcoming atmosphere is that like many other Paisley businesses Taste Buds are dog friendly. Providing the perfect end to a day out with your four legged best friend by popping in.
Rawlings Love to Eat
This family run business is both a bistro and can a coffee shop. Rawlings believes that simplicity and quality is the key.
All cakes are made in house and all coffee is served with extra kimbo cream making them an ideal after destination. If you’re looking for something more filling they have a weekly Brunch menu and an early evening dinner menu.
You have to be quick however as they are in such demand that bookings require 48 hours notice.
Ottoman Coffeehouse
Located right in the heart of Glasgow’s West End Ottoman aims to be a laid back alternative to the big coffee chains. Offering a quite space for customers to enjoy their coffee and forget about the wider world.
They put a lot of effort in every cup of coffee inspired by the owners’ travels to Turkey. Their effort has clearly paid off with their customers as Ottoman boasts a 4.9 Google review rating.
Their menu is more street food focused with a fusion of Turkish and South Asian flavours. The menu is fully organic with options to suit meat lovers, vegans and pescatarians.
The Edinburgh Larder
Once thought of as a hidden gem on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile this award winning café continues to offer its legendary breakfasts. Doesn’t require bookings as they welcome walk ins.
A couple of doors down is the Little Larder which provides the same menu items but in compostable takeaway containers as well as beautiful crafts and gift items.
Jessie’s Kitchen
This award winning family run business isn’t your typical tea room. Based over three elegant rooms in a beautiful and lovingly-restored Victorian jute Baron’s mansion. One of the rooms includes a big toy cupboard for the children and there’s a dog friendly outdoor seating area perfect for those sunny days.
They offer a spectacular range of homemade cakes that they offer for home delivery. If you want a healthier alternative you can order fruit and vegetable boxes through their website for contactless delivery.
The Boathouse
Sitting on the historic Glencaple Quay, this café and shop is convenient both for local residents and visitors. Such a popular site for afternoon tea that it requires 24 hours notice.

Located in the scenic Milton of Campsie is one of several outlets from Billingtons Lenzie joining in 2017. They offer a range of homemade cakes which you can enjoy grounded coffee, a selection of herbal teas or even a glass of wine.
They also boast some of the highest quality ice cream all organic and additive free, using only fresh fruit and ingredients. From there customers can choose plain or from a wide variety of mix-ins, combined to create a personalised ice cream experience. Their ice cream is available for hire for parties of up to 10 people.
