TEFL ORG APPOINTS NEW MD
One of the world’s most renowned TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) businesses has brought in a new managing director to drive its growth ambitions – a year on from becoming an employee-owned firm.
Andy Healy joins The TEFL Org with over 20 years’ experience in the publishing sector, most recently building market leading consumer brands for Immediate Media and BBC magazines. He plans to use his expertise to grow the business across international markets, particularly in the US.
Andy’s appointment comes 12 months after the Scottish-based business adopted employee ownership under founders Joe Hallwood and Jennifer MacKenzie.
Andy commented: “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to join a business which has seen phenomenal digital growth over the last 18 months.
Joe and Jennifer focused the business on providing high quality courses with unrivalled customer service and the mix has driven huge success.
I’m looking forward to building on that legacy as we set our sights on the next phase of ambitious growth.”
Andy previously held the role of MD at Immediate Media Company – home of Radio Times, Good Food and BBC magazines – for five years where he headed up global verticals such as history and sport as well as the digital editions and podcast divisions covering 40 different brands including the hugely popular HistoryExtra.
During his stint at Immediate, Andy oversaw record revenues and multiple industry awards while continuing to grow the reputation and audience of a number of top brands.
The TEFL Org was co-founded by Joe and Jennifer in Beauly, near Inverness and began life as a start-up in a back garden shed during the global recession. Going from strength to strength The TEFL Org sees the addition of Andy as another big leap forward in elevating the firm as it continues its evolution under employee ownership.
The TEFL Org currently employs 18 members of staff and approximately 30 tutors. Responsible for training more than 150,000 EFL teachers for nearly 15 years, the firm provides a range of flexible classroom, virtual and online courses, ranging from 20 hours to 188 hours.
Jennifer MacKenzie said, “Andy comes with a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge in managing teams and growing the reputation of some of the country’s biggest brands.
We have every confidence he will help The TEFL Org reach new audiences and bring fresh, vibrant ideas to the business and the way we operate. The entire team is delighted to have him on board.”
