Duncan Smith Dental, a well-regarded practice with deep-rooted ties to the local community, has joined Scottish Dental Care, a move that ensures the continuation of its commitment to high-quality patient care.
Established in the 1930s and led by Dr Duncan Smith since 1992, the practice has built a stellar reputation for delivering outstanding dental treatments, combining a patient-centric approach with a dedication to clinical excellence.
Under Scottish Dental Care’s ownership, the practice will continue to serve its patients under the name Musselburgh Dental Clinic and Implant Centre, with investment into enhanced facilities and cutting-edge digital technology expected in the next 12 months.
Duncan Smith, Founder of Duncan Smith Dental, said: “This practice has always been rooted in Musselburgh’s community, and I’m proud of the trusted relationships we’ve built over the years with both our patients and our dedicated team.
By joining Scottish Dental Care, we’re safeguarding that legacy while opening an exciting new chapter. Our patients will continue to see the same familiar faces, now supported by additional investment and cutting-edge technology that will further enhance the care we provide.
We’re looking forward to this partnership and what it means for the future of both our team and the local community.”
Dr Smith will continue at the clinic as Lead Dentist while his wife Andrea, who has worked with Duncan over the past 23 years to develop the practice, will step back to spend more well-deserved time with family. With 20 team members, and five surgeries, the clinic provides a range of treatments including NHS and private dentistry, implants, cosmetic procedures and facial aesthetics.
Scottish Dental Care, founded by brothers Christopher and Dr Philip Friel in 2016, has grown steadily, now comprising 22 locations across Scotland, from Inverness to Dumfries.
This latest acquisition follows the group’s recent purchase of Platt & Common, a historic dental clinic in Stirling with a storied legacy dating back to 1861.
During the last 12 months the company has refurbished three clinics and added 15 new surgeries across its portfolio of practices, while also investing heavily in equipment, technology and training.
Where other groups are consolidating, Scottish Dental Care is committed to expanding and investing in high quality practices, and is actively seeking discussions with practice owners interested in becoming part of its growing network.
Dr Philip Friel, Director of Dentistry at Scottish Dental Care and Advanced Dentistry said: “We are delighted to welcome Duncan Smith Dental Practice into the Scottish Dental Care family.
Duncan and his team have built a practice that is well-loved and highly regarded, and we are excited to support them in continuing to provide exceptional dental care to their patients.”
He added: “As a family-founded group, we take pride in ensuring each of our practices maintains its unique identity while benefiting from investment in state-of-the-art technology, training, and infrastructure that enhances both patient experience and clinical outcomes.”
Scottish Dental Care has established a reputation for refurbishing to the highest standards, equipping its practices with state-of-the-art digital technologies, ensuring that patients and practitioners benefit from the latest advancements in dental care.
Within the group, its Advanced Dentistry brand represents a centre of excellence for pioneering treatments, including, restorative, implant and cosmetic dentistry and facial aesthetics.
The group also prides itself on offering industry-leading training and remuneration packages for its dental professionals, ensuring its practices attract and retain top talent.
With an expanding portfolio and a strong commitment to exceptional patient care, Scottish Dental Care continues to shape the future of dentistry in Scotland, preserving the heritage and values of the practices it acquires while bringing innovation and investment to benefit both patients and clinicians.
