Bristol entrepreneurs innovating period industry

Two forward-thinking entrepreneurs are on a mission to make lives easier for people with periods through the development of new and innovative technology.
Bristol-based CupSquared was founded by Kira (24) and Monica (25) in 2021 and provides users with an easy and hygienic way to clean reusable period products while on the go.
The pair met while studying Innovation at the University of Bristol and first came up with the idea as part of their final year project. They both had experiences of awkward moments while trying to discretely clean menstrual cups in busy flat shares and decided to bring their concept to life after spotting a gap in the market.
Recognising the product’s potential, they conducted extensive market research into existing reusable period products, with the results highlighting an appetite for convenient, easy to use cleaning methods.
Kira and Monica created the first prototype on an at-home 3D printer and are now looking to open their first pre-seed investment round to fund the next phase of manufacturing and launch the product to the market later this year.
To help take the business to the next level as they gear up for launch, the CupSquared team applied for a place on NatWest’s Entrepreneur Accelerator Hub. NatWest’s Accelerator programme supports and empowers entrepreneurs across the South West, offering one-to-one coaching, a programme of thought leadership and events, access to a network of like-minded peers, and full-time use of a modern co-working space.
Commenting on the support for the business, co-founder Kira said:”The period industry has come on leaps and bounds in terms of sustainability, but while these products offer more environmentally friendly solutions, they’re not always the most practical for everyday life. We founded CupSquared as a solution to that problem.”
Being a part of NatWest’s Entrepreneur Accelerator Hub has been invaluable as we continue to grow the brand. It’s provided us with mentoring support as well as access to amazing entrepreneurs who are always happy to offer advice and learnings from their own experiences.”
She added: “It’s been a complete game changer for us and we’re excited to continue our relationship with NatWest as we bring the CupSquared brand to life.”
