Insurance group Sompo International Holdings Ltd. has appointed Nicolas Berg as chief executive of its UK Insurance business, with the appointment due to take effect next month.
Berg succeeds Sarah Stanford who has led the UK Insurance business through its initial integration period following Sompo’s acquisition of Aspen. Stanford is stepping down with Berg taking charge on October 1, 2026.
Berg joins Sompo from SCOR Group, where he most recently served as CEO of SCOR US and Head of Property and Casualty (P&C) North America. Berg will be based in London and report to CEO of International Markets, Alessa Quane.
Quane welcomed Berg’s appointment, highlighting his experience across the UK and global insurance markets. She said: “As an established insurance executive with deep industry knowledge and significant UK and global market experience Nic [Nicolas] brings a dynamic and forward-looking approach to leadership.
“He will play a critical role in advancing our strategy, accelerating our momentum and positioning Sompo as a leading commercial insurer in the UK market.”
Berg brings 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, having spent much of his career at AIG in a range of global and regional leadership positions focused on the UK and European markets.
